I love the complexity of learning and creating a proud, upright, strong bamboo, symbolic of the honest. knowledgeable, yet forthright gentleman. I was once told that women could not paint bamboo properly because they didn’t have the needed strength. As a woman of the 60’s and 70’s, I couldn’t allow that image to proliferate. I studied and practiced and practiced. My bamboo paintings have been award winners in many shows! Proving again just how capable a determined woman can be!

This particular painting is on a Shuan paper with gold flecks. I grind my own ink for a thick, black consistency that I can lighten for a multitude of shades to emphasize the character of the bamboo.
